Your Tongue can Shorten your Life
Hey Friends,
I want to share a little nugget of wisdom from 1 Peter 3:10 that I think is really worth reflecting on. It says “”For whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.
Deceitful words are purposefully misleading with the intent to lie and create fabrications about others; words with subtle harmful effects
To “speak evil” means “to talk against, to defame, to slander” – literally, “to talk down” another person.
Evil words are also words full of profanity (curse words) which are the most damaging emphatic profane words used to belittle others; calling them out of their names.
We all want to enjoy life. We want to be successful and healthy along with our close friends and family members. All hopes of such a life can be destroyed if we allow ourselves to be careless about the manner in which we speak about people. We have to put away the gossiping and backbiting and lies if we want to be blessed and enjoy long healthy fruitful lives.
You often wonder why some are prospering and others are struggling. Words are the keys. The the conditions of their lives are determined by what they allow to come out of our mouths about people. If we are to interpret the verse correctly, many lives are cut short because of the words they utter. Life becomes hard, people rise up against them and all manner of evil. For them, life bears fruits of gloom and sadness.
So, as you go about your day, think about how you can use your words to uplift and encourage, rather than to bring negativity. Small changes in how we communicate can lead to really positive shifts in our own lives and in our communities.
Wishing you a day filled with good conversations and positive vibes!
